The school theatre was filled with the sound of music last Thursday as Holy Trinity's music department put on their annual Spring Music Night. Following up on the Acoustic Circus one day earlier, the concert added a musical flavour to Holy Trinity's school community. This Tuesday, the Senior Concert Band was back at it, performing at the Sounds of Joy festival in Hamilton.

TSO Trip
By: D'Arcy Murphy
On Wednesday, May 6th, over 40 students from Holy Trinity, along with Mr. Harkin and Mrs. Mascarin (a retired HT teacher) travelled to Toronto for an exciting trip. The annual music department field trip did not disappoint this year with stops at the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO), Eaton Centre, and Roy Thomson Hall to see the Toronto Symphony Orchestra (TSO) play live.

March Break Bucket List
By: D'Arcy Murphy
March Break is right around the corner. Are you still trying to figure out how to spend the week off from school? Aside from lounging on the sofa with some friends, some snacks, and Netflix (certainly nothing to be ashamed of- we all do it), here are a few more interesting suggestions for how you can make this Break a memorable one.

Ash Wednesday Lenten Reflection
By: D’Arcy Murphy
This past Wednesday, the staff and students of Holy Trinity gathered in the school theatre to commemorate Ash Wednesday. This day of fasting and abstinence observed by Catholics marks the beginning of Lent, and those who participate mark themselves with ashes.
All four grades assembled separately in the theatre during periods one and two. The liturgies were led by Mrs. Harkin, the school chaplain. Students proclaimed the readings and reflections, and after distributed the ashes. Mr. Harkin’s period two repertoire class provided a beautiful musical element to the services.
Following the liturgy, presentations from Mrs. Harkin and Mr. Christie explained HT’s charity campaigns for this Lenten season. For the St. Vincent de Paul Society, period two classes will be given an envelope to fill with donations to go towards the Easter meals of underprivileged families in Oakville. Many of these families in need have been affected by cancer, multiple-sclerosis, and sudden unemployment. For Mom2Mom Africa, classes were also asked to raise funds and purchase a backpack for a child in Africa. Small, child-sized knapsacks (along with a toonie stuffed into one of the pouches to pay for shipping costs) would be greatly appreciated.
Many people are confused by the traditions of Ash Wednesday. The day following Pancake Tuesday (when all of the sweet and rich foods are consumed and cleared from the house) is the start of Lent, the forty day period before Easter. Lent is a time for prayer, charitable giving, and fasting. Typically individuals pledge to give up something (such as chocolate or social media) or promise to increase a positive action (such as prayer or donating money) during the forty days and beyond. The ashes worn on the forehead in the sign of the cross are a visual aspect that direct us to God and remind us of our need for Him.
If you’re still looking for a creative Lenten promise, look below for some ideas. By the way, you don’t have to be Catholic to make the most of Lent as a time to help others!

- Pledge to do a random act of kindness each day (ie. hold a door open for someone, etc.)
- In solidarity with the homeless, sleep on the floor instead of on your bed or give up your pillow.
- Give your parents a break and cook dinner.
- Donate your time to a charity (ie. Saint Vincent de Paul, Oakville Fairshare Foodbank, etc.)
- Take only cold showers.
- Don’t wear makeup.
- Read instead of watching TV.
- Go to the sacrament of reconciliation.

Black History Month Celebrity Profile
By: Julio Balda
Throughout this century, black men and women have been dominating both politically and musically. Constantly in the news, black people now have a voice through means of others. A few of these many successful people are mentioned in the following article.
Barack Obama, the first ever black president, is one of the most liked politicians and influential people in the world. He continues to support strong causes such as gay marriage, and equality.
An amazing philanthropist, producer, and talk show host, Oprah Winfrey is a well-known household name! Most known for her talk-show The Oprah Winfrey Show, (one of the highest-rated programs in history), she has also written six books, and is one of the richest black people in North America.
Constantly talked about in media, Beyoncé is not a stranger to anyone. She has had five number one hit albums, is a successful actress starring in The Pink Panther as well as Obsessed, and made jaws drop in 2014 when she suddenly released an album without knowledge or promotion for it, which caused a huge wave in the media.
The talented Kevin Hart never ceases to amuse people and make them die of laughter. One of the biggest names in comedy at the moment, he’s hosted many award shows, such as the MTV VMAs, BET Awards, and many others. Hart has also won many awards himself, including Best Actor in a Comedy Series for the NAACP Image Awards, as well as Best Actor for the BET Awards in 2012, and other amazing awards.
Both the newest face for Lancome and named Woman of the Year by Glamour Magazine, Lupita Nyong’o has rapidly become one of the most loved actresses in the world. She starred in the award winning movie, 12 Years a Slave, and received an Oscar for her amazing and captivating performance. Nyong’o is the first black spokeswoman for Lancome, which is monumental. She was featured as the cover girl for the UK’s Dazed & Confused Magazine, as well as on Vogue. She is set to star in Queen of Katwe, a biopic portraying the rise of a young African chess prodigy.
Over the last couple of years black men and women have taken the entertainment world by storm, whether it’s through politics, music, or other forms of media. Black men and women have always been and always will be great leaders and influential people, despite being in a white oriented world.

Christmas Concert Preview
By: Joshua Volkers
Photo Credit: Taryn Bratz & Maddi McNevitts
Hello Titans! I am here to report to you what to expect from the Christmas Music Concert this year! For those of you that don’t know, everybody who is a part of the school’s music department (including the junior and senior bands, concert choir, jazz band, and guitar classes) is going to be performing amazing music on Thursday December 18th from 7:00 p.m. to, at the latest, 9:00 p.m. Anybody in possession of a ticket bought from Mr. Harkin before then is welcome. The tickets are $5 each, but anyone who is performing in the concert or has helped set it up will have backstage VIP access, so that’s the only way you are getting into this thing for free.
For anybody turned off by having to pay for it, allow me to win you over: the night will feature classic Christmas jingles that everybody should have heard, as well as other songs to mix things up. For example, Silent Night will be performed, but there is also a Spanish piece called ‘La Madre de Los Gatos’, which translates to 'the mother of the cats'. Each group will be performing anywhere from 3-6 pieces, so there will be plenty of content to enjoy- or potentially- roast. In addition to all of that, yours truly will be performing in the concert, struggling to play pieces by the band Kansas, Beethoven, and that famous German composer called, eh… it was… aha, that’s it: Franz Xaver Gruber.
So anybody who is looking to enjoy music for a couple of hours and is willing to pay $5 is welcome, again, from 7:00 p.m. to, at the latest, 9:00 p.m. Remember, this all goes down in the school theatre, so be there to enjoy it. And since it was Mr. Harkin who provided me with the info to write this little preview, I feel that I should inform you that he may or may not wield a flaming guitar by the end of the night. Probably not, but remember you wouldn’t be able to see it in person if it were to happen unless you’re there, so buy the tickets in Room 333 for the concert if you want, and we hope to see you there.
Thank you Titans, and remember to be extra festive this time of year, look forward to your holiday vacations, and stay strong during culminating season!

Taryn's Top Ten Yuletide Tunes
By: Taryn Bratz
This is a companion article to our first print edition, available for only a dollar in the Holy Trinity atrium this week.
Christmas is, without a doubt, my favourite holiday. There's so much to be grateful for, not just for the birth of Jesus, but to be able to celebrate it with family and friends. Every year around the beginning of November you start to hear hundreds of Christmas songs. So, I have decided to make a top ten list (in no particular order) which includes some classics, instrumentals, more-recents, and just down-right hilarious pieces. Hope you enjoy!
Just click on the link to the corresponding YouTube video for each song, or click here for a playlist of all ten songs!
Carol of the Bells- Trans-Siberian Orchestra: This is a great song that features both a classical orchestra and a rock band in one. This combination delivers a spine-chilling performance making you want to play it over and over again.
Grandma Got Runover by a Reindeer- Elmo Shropshire: This is definitely one of the funniest Christmas songs out there. Although it may sound quite morbid, this is certainly a favourite for the clever lyrics. If you’re not singing out loud then you’ll be laughing outloud.
Santa Baby- Madonna: This Christmas hit by Madonna definitely makes you contemplate your christmas list. Is a yacht really a lot?
O Holy Night- Il Divo: There have been many renditions of this classic favourite, but Il Divo certainly adds the heartwarming touch. This cosmopolitan quartet of pop and opera beautifully combines traditional with modern to tell the birth of Jesus Christ and humanity’s salvation.
Mary’s Boy Child- Boney M: This song gives everyone a reminder of the true meaning of Christmas and beautifully tells the story of the first Nativity.
The Holly and the Ivy- Jon Anderson: This song is a classic rendition of a British choir carol that makes you want to sing along to every word. In particular, this version has a beautiful instrumental background.
White Christmas- Bing Crosby: What would Christmas be without this holiday favourite? White Christmas by Bing Crosby certainly exclaims the expectations we all have and hope to fulfill at Christmas time. I know I’ll be dreaming of a white Christmas.
We Three Kings- Celtic Woman: This magical song brings the Celtic flare that this memorable story needs. This creatively tells the story of the three wise men, Jasper, Balthazar, and Melchior and the gifts they brought baby Jesus.
Silent Night- Josh Groban: Who can forget his classical lullaby with the combination of Josh Groban’s powerful voice and the children’s choir in the background? This is one of my all time favourites.
Baby It’s Cold Outside- Michael Buble and Idina Menzel: If you haven't heard this collaboration you're in for a treat. With both of their voices, this song will definitely go down in history as a great Christmas classic!
Happy listening!
