Weekly Sports Round-Up Feb. 9-15

Another great week is behind us. HT's finest winter sports teams competed to close out the regular season and began preparations or even already began the playoffs. The midget boys' basketball team won both games with high scores on Tuesday, February 5th against Robert Bateman and Burlington Central. The boys' are undefeated throughout the season as they enter the playoff run beginning this Wednesday against Bishop Reding. Come on out HT and support the boys! The junior boys' basketball team are also undefeated in the regular season. The team already began the playoffs on Thursday against Christ the King in the quarter final where they defeated the opponent by the score of 81-36. Juniors take on Bishop Reding on Thursday, February 19th in the semi final game. Let's come out together Titans and show our black and gold spirit! The senior boys' basketball team played their quarterfinal game against King's Christian Collegiate which they won by the score of 72-50. The team takes on Bishop Reding's team this Thursday in the semifinal game.

Senior boys' hockey team played Corpus on Tuesday but lost that game 5-1. The next game, the team took on Frank Hayden and won it 6-3. The boys will play this Tuesday against Nelson at the River Oaks Arena in rink B so come on out and support our team!

The junior girls' volleyball team closed out the regular season with a 2-1 win against Craig Kielburger this week as they prepare to face off Georgetown in the AAAA semifinal game on Wednesday. Good luck ladies! The senior girls' volleyball team took on Oakville Trafalgar team on Monday which resulted in another loss. On February 10th, ladies played their final game of the season against Craig Kielburger. Coming into this matchup, they were winning less. The girls wanted to win the last game of the season and for some of them the last game ever in HT's uniform with pride and dignity and they did just that. It was a hard fought battle but HT came out with a 2-1 win. This year was not good for our girls, but they never gave up and played until the last whistle in each game and we thank them for that.

The Holy Trinity swim team concluded their season with the GHAC championships. Swimmers from Trinity were able to qualify for OFSAA as they were edged out by a matter of seconds. Thanks and congratulations go to the coaches and athletes on a fantastic season in the pool.

HT's ski and snowboard team had an exciting week with three Titans advancing to OFSAA. Congratulations to Hannah, Leah, Rachel, and Shannon!

As the Titans' faithful enter the playoffs, we wish them all the best in achieving their goals as well as in representing our school well. Each game is very important therefore the support is needed from the fans. Titan fans are the best. Our spirit rises high above everyone else. Let us come to our teams' games and support them by showing our true Titan spirit!!! If you can't come to the away games then come out to the ones held at our gym. Let's celebrate together HT fam!!!

Seven Swimmers Qualify for GHAC

On Tuesday February 3rd, the Holy Trinity swim team headed to McMaster to compete in the Halton Championships. The team has been working hard this month ever since their qualifying meets in December. It was clear that their work definitely paid off. The top two swimmers in an event from each team were eligible to compete at Haltons. From there, the top fourteen swimmers in every event advanced to the GHAC meet, which will take place on Thursday, February 12th. Here are the swimmers qualified for GHAC from Holy Trinity:

• Alannah Mote - 50m Freestyle 
• Cameron Gesner, Alannah Mote, Kayla Chirstoffer, Farida El Tawil - Junior Girls 200m Freestyle Relay
• Tatiana Uribe – 100m Freestyle, 100m Backstroke
• Tatiana Uribe, Maddi McNevitts, Rachel Barca, Alannah Mote – Senior Girls 200m Freestyle Relay
• Cameron Gesner – 50m Butterfly

A big thanks to the coaches for their ongoing support and dedication of time throughout the season. Congrats to all the swimmers on their great season and good luck at the next meet!

More Than a Stroke of Genius: Titans Swimmers Improve with Season's First Meet

It was a great day to be a Titan at McMaster University. Not only did the senior boys football team dominate their OFSAA Bowl game, but the swim team competed in their first meet of the season. Some of the students who were attending the football buyout walked across campus to cheer on the swimmers at the McMaster pool.

Every swimmer competed in minimum of 3 events and did their best in each. Their success was motivated by everyone’s personal goals and dedication to the sport. Congratulations to everyone on the team! 

Special mentions go out to:

• Four Top 16 finishes by: Rachel Barca x2, Madison McNevitts, and Alannah Mote
• Alannah Mote and Rachel Barca with a 50m freestyle time 6 seconds off of OFSAA qualifying time. Both girls respectively had a time of 37 seconds. 

The Titans' performance would not have been the same without the dedicated coaching of Ms. Costa, Ms. Lazzarato and Ms. Edmunds.

Good luck to HT at their upcoming meets, happening today- Monday, December 1st as well as on December 8th.

Weekly Sports Round-Up Nov. 24-30

It was another busy week for the Holy Trinity sports teams.

The senior boys football team made highlights throughout the week as they became the UNDEFEATED OFSAA champions!! On Monday, the boys beat Cardinal Newman to advance to the OFSAA Bowl. The Titans took on the St. Peter Knights’ team at the Ron Joyce Stadium in Hamilton where they defeated them 50-16 to seal the deal! Huge congratulations go out to the black & gold boys as well as the coaches for their hard work, passion and determination!!! More coverage is coming in our first print edition, which will be released this week!

Holy Trinity’s swim team hit the pool for their first swim meet on Thursday, also at McMaster. The swimmers did an amazing job individually and group wise according to one of their coaches, Ms. Lazzarato. The team has another meet coming up this week. Go Titans! No doubt you will be making some waves!

The hockey season has officially started for the Holy Trinity Titans. The girls played in some tournaments against Nelson and St. Thomas Aquinas. Good luck ladies in your future games! The senior boys hockey kicked off their season against Blakelock with a 4-0 victory. Just one day later, they came back to win the game 8-1 against Garth Webb to improve the Titans’ record to 2-0. The hockey boys are in Pittsburgh this weekend to compete and bond as a unit to develop player chemistry that drives any successful team. UPDATE: The boys went undefeated in Pennsylvania as they won their tournament! Stay tuned to the blog for the full story!

Last but not least, the Titans’ basketball teams took the court to compete during the week. The midget boys start their season this Wednesday, December 3rd at White Oaks High School. The junior boys basketball team kicked off their regular season with a 62-37 victory vs King’s Christian Collegiate. This weekend, they won the D'Youville Jam tournament, beating Sacred Heart, Applewood, and Pickering on their way to the championship. Meanwhile, the senior boys continued their season at the Freeds-St. Clair tournament in Windsor. They played Korah and beat them with the score of 61-41 to make their way into Pool C Championship against Pine Ridge where they lost 70-58. In the silver medal round, they lost to St. Patrick 71-62 before beating Resurrection 73-30 in the silver consolation match. After a tournament against difficult opposition, they should keep their heads up and continue to improve as a team for further games.

Titans Ready to Make Some Waves

Holy Trinity`s swim team have already hit the pool for their upcoming season. They have been practicing every Monday and Wednesday at White Oaks pool where they are perfecting their pulls and dives along their coaches- Ms. Lazzarato, Ms. Edmunds and Ms. Costa. The Titans will be competing in a series of meets over the next few weeks with their first meet starting this Thursday, November 27th at McMaster pool.
