Les médias sont très efficaces pour faire une image d’horreur quand ils décrivent « ISIS ». Et ce n’est pas un problème parce que c’est la vérité. Quand cette image est construite pour victimiser les personnes innocentes, c’est ça qui crée un problème.

The Titans Remember

Staff and students of Holy Trinity gathered together in the school gym Tuesday morning for the annual Remembrance Day service. Many bore poppies to pay tribute to the soldiers who died protecting our country. Following an introductory speech about Remembrance Day and its origin and history, everyone was asked to stand for the singing of O Canada, played by the senior concert band. Members of the audience were then called to silently pay their respects to the fallen Canadian soldiers, Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent and Corporal Nathan Cirillo, who were killed on Canadian soil this October. After a brief explanation of the history and symbolism of poppies, Mrs. Borsellino’s drama class performed a short, symbolic presentation called “The Missing Mantle.” Members processed in bearing a wreath, a white cross, and two flags.

Following the drama class' presentation, the day's guest of honour, Corporal Brad Mullen, was introduced and proceeded with a captivating speech. Cpl. Mullen spoke of the importance of peace, the great diversity of our country, and the significance of our national anthem. His words, which moved some students to tears, focused on the importance of service towards one another and his regiment's motto: "I serve".

Following the talk, grade eleven student and Oakville Sea Cadet, Master Seaman Cleyton Calilung laid the wreath on the cross. Bearing the words "lest we forget", the wreath was a sign of the day's importance and the thanks we owe to Canadian servicemen and women for their courage and sacrifice.
MS Calilung stood on guard in front of the cross as a moment of silence was observed and the Last Post was played by Mr. Harkin. Throughout the ceremony, the concert band and choir provided musical enhancement for this reverent assembly.

The closing prayer, which impressed a final gesture of thanks to God for how fortunate we are in Canada, was met with the response, "Lord grant us peace". Fittingly, grade twelve student Mariana DaSilva says, “I feel that it’s important to commemorate those who fought for us, together as one Catholic family.”
Thank you to all those- standing or fallen, who have sacrificed for our freedom.

Lest we forget.

Any Time is Tee Time

By: Izabela Pitula & Kristyn Farrell

According to Urban Dictionary, golf is “more than just a game. It is a sport where power is not needed, but skill and practice. It is an endless quest for improvement. Golf is the most irritating game you’ll ever play, but a pleasure beyond definition.” According to Mark Twain, golf is “the best way to ruin a good walk.” Golf has a different meaning for everyone, but for Holy Trinity’s golf team, it is more than just a sport. It is a way of life.

The team consists of five focused players (Michael G., Johnny M., Dylan R., Cameron S., and Eric B.), along with their coaches (Mr. Crisostimo, Mr. Leonard and Mr. McAleese). On September 15th, 26th, and 30th, the Holy Trinity Golf Team participated in their first golf tournament of the season, the First Halton Golf Tournament, which took place at various golf courses in Acton, Mississauga, and Burlington.

On the first day, the boys used their teamwork skills and placed fourth out of seventeen teams. According to the coaches, everyone played well and only missed a few holes- a continuing improvement from last season. The second day of the competition was much more challenging, as the Titans battled against King's Christian Collegiate, one of the highest ranked teams in Halton. In the third and last day of the contest, the Titans had individual games where they played with more confidence, skill, and precision, and were much more successful.

The members put forth their best efforts and were able to place seventh out of eighteen teams, making only a few minor mistakes and demonstrating their passion for the sport. All the boys played extremely well, but the head coach Mr. Crisostimo distinguished Michael G. as “the most experienced player on the team, who used his skills to help and guide his teammates”.

Despite the efforts they put forth and the skill they exhibited, the Titans did not qualify to compete at the next level-GHAC. However, according to the head coach, Mr. Crisostimo, all the members played well and the tournament contributed to the overall continuous improvement of the team. Throughout the tournament, under the guidance and leadership of their captain Michael G. and all their coaches, the team collaborated with each other, learned from their mistakes, competed with skill and accuracy, and gained valuable practice and experience that will be of much use in all the seasons to come.

GO TITANS!!!
