Clubs Going UP on a Thursday

By: Molly Pearson

Last Thursday night, members from Holy Trinity’s incredibly diverse clubs flooded the atrium in preparation for the First Annual Clubs Banquet. This banquet was held to honour our dedicated club members and all of the work they put into our school.

Put together by Miss Di Federico and student representatives Maddi McNevitts and Kate Ingman, the evening started off with socializing as the attendees began to arrive. They were not without boredom however, as there was an exciting photo booth set up for their enjoyment. Boas, big sunglasses, funny hats - you name it - it was at their fingertips for frame worthy snaps.

Then it was time for what everyone had been waiting for, dinner! Catered by Luigi’s Catering, the spread was delicious, plentiful and highly popular amongst the students, who sat in the cafeteria at spirited black and gold tablecloths for their meal.

That’s not to mention, however, the incredible selection of desserts that the club members dug into as the awards were given out. Each club awarded a member with a Most Active Contributor (M.A.C.) award, as well as an award voted on by the club members. Some honorable mentions include:

Post awards, the Titans retired to the theatre for a motivational talk from self-proclaimed “Motivational Humourist”, Judy Suke who told about finding your passion and working towards a happy life. She kept the students laughing whilst also touching on very important topics in the teenage life.

Overall, the night was a huge success, an excellent and much needed chance to recognize the extraordinary efforts put forth by those in clubs! Keep up the great extracurricular involvement and GO TITANS!

Chatting with the Chaplain on Catholic Education Week

By: Molly Pearson

This week at Holy Trinity, along with all other Catholic schools across the province, we are celebrating Catholic Education Week. I had the chance to sit down with everyone's favourite school chaplain, Mrs. Harkin, in order to find out more about this special part of the school year.

An Irish Feast for St. Paddy's Day

By: D’Arcy Murphy and Molly Pearson

We all know about the traditions that make St. Patrick’s Day - the feast day of the Roman Catholic Church celebrating the life of Ireland’s patron saint - so popular. Aside from a few famous beverages from the Emerald Isle, what else is there to mark this feast other than great food? Here is a collection of recipes that will set you up for the perfect Irish meal on St. Patrick’s Day:

Titans Spirit Week

As most of you may know, this upcoming week is Spirit Week at Holy Trinity. This means that every day of the week has as different theme for half civvies or civvies. Here’s a quick overview.

For $3 paid on Tuesday, you can wear:

Tuesday February 24th – Jersey Day (half-civvies)

This is the day to show your true colours with the jersey of your favourite sports team or perhaps even your own! Hockey, soccer, basketball, you name it! Anything jersey or sport-related attire goes for this day.

Wednesday February 25th – Pink Day (half-civvies)

To support our school's anti-bullying awareness program, everyone is encouraged to wear pink on top! If you don’t have a pink shirt or sweater, you can wear red to still show your support. Hopefully with everyone wearing pink or red, us Titans can show that we are united in preventing bullying in our school.

Thursday February 26th – Spirit Day (full-civvies)

H WHAT? HT! Quite possibly the most spirited day of the week, the whole school is guaranteed to be a sea of black, gold and white. Remember, its full civvies, so you can fully show your Titan Pride! Paired with an exciting Winter Pep Rally, this day will be full of spirit and fun!

Friday February 27th – Pajama Day (full-civvies)

Finally, the day we’ve all been waiting for… the comfiest day at HT. Full on PJ’s. Baggy sweaters, sweatpants, bunny slippers, you name it! Anything warm and cozy goes for this day, so enjoy it to its fullest!

Remember your $3 tomorrow to enjoy the whole week of festivities!

“H what? HT”: Holy Trinity’s Latest Crowd-Pleasing Pep Rally

By: Molly Pearson

Lights were down, music was blaring, black and gold filled the room. The feeling of excitement pulsed through the air as students arrived at the gym on Thursdays Fall Pep Rally. Both candy and balloons alike were thrown eagerly into the crowd while the Student Athletic Council members were enthusiastically cheering: ‘H what? HT!’

The first pep rally of the year started off with a somber and respectful tone, as the entire student body gathered to remember and pray for the loss of Corporal Nathan Cirillo. This was then followed by a moment of silence and the entire student body joining in on singing O Canada before the festivities commenced.

A ‘GO TITANS’ banner was displayed in front of the gym doors, and our very own Titan boys ran out to the tune of Sexyback before turning around to show us their quote-on-quote ‘Sexy Back’s’. They then proceeded to do a synchronized dance to Jump On It that many past students were sure to be familiar with.

SAC followed that crowd pumping display with a Titans Sports video showcasing Holy Trinity’s finest fall season athletes in action. Throughout the pep rally, the golf, girls basketball, cross country, girls field hockey, boys volleyball and boys football teams were called up to the front to say a few words about their 2014 season.

Intermittently between these sports team recognitions, there was an assortment of videos and games. Foremost, there was a B.Y.O.B video to raise awareness and support for the Bring Your Own Box initiative taking place on November 26th. Later on, a pumpkin pie eating contest was held.  (Want to know how to make your own pumpkin pie? Check out Yisu’s Fall Menu for the recipe! [http://thehttitantimes.blogspot.ca/2014/10/yisus-fall-menu.html). The participants of the pie eating contest were made to eat the pie using only their mouths. Once they discovered the gumball hidden at the centre, they had to chew it and blow a bubble! Another entertaining game played was ‘Are you Smarter Than a Highschooler’ with Holy Trinity’s own teachers, Mr. Saulez, Ms. Olmstead and Mr. Bonfiglio testing their knowledge on questions such as ‘What does RT mean?’, with replies such as “Really Terrible”.

Perhaps two of the most noteworthy events from HT's latest pep rally were the Senior Football teams music video for ‘Shake it Off’ and of course, the incredible dance off. The first of the two was a hilarious video of the guys dancing and lip-syncing into a camera as they are followed through the halls, into the gym and around the school. It featured hilarious dance moves, sassy facial expressions and fierce attitude, to say the least. They really got funky with this music video! The second of the two included many of those same things, as members of that very same football team and the Senior Girls Field Hockey team battled it out to catchy songs such as ‘Lip Gloss’ and ‘The Nae Nae’. Undeniably the girl’s pre-planned synchronized dance moves were no match to the boys, when it came to crowd pleasing. Based on the crowds votes by cheering, the boys won by a landslide due to their confident dance moves and effortless swagger. Watch the video here. Overall, this pep rally started the year off with a bang. It was filled with intense school spirit and hilarious games and videos. Definitely a 10/10. GO TITANS!
