Holy Trinity’s junior girls' volleyball team faced off against the Georgetown Rebels on Tuesday. The juniors played with persistence as they had some great rallies and made some amazing dives throughout the game. They ended off the first set with a victory, 25-23 being the score.

In the second set, our Titans were in the lead, making some incredible spikes and serves- not to mention the fantastic blocks that were made. It was a hard fought battle but unfortunately, they were not victorious in the second set, ending it with a score of 25-24.

The juniors went into the third set with confidence and displayed terrific teamwork. However, they ended the third set with a loss. The score was 15-9. After the game, I caught up with assistant coach Mike Brzek to ask him how he felt about the game. “We started off really strong in the first set. We were very tense and had some great defense in the beginning but in the second set, we just lost it.”

The juniors competed in a tournament on Friday and went home as silver medalists! Go Titans!

Senior Girls'

On Tuesday of last week our senior girls gave it their all against the Georgetown Rebels. During the first set it was a hard fought battle with both teams going for gold. Mikaila Patrick and Veronique Chesterfield had some amazing digs and made sure to not let that ball hit the floor. Tayania Smith came up with a huge block, shutting down a vicious spike from the Rebels. Simone Hardenne returned with her own ferocious spike, racking up a point for HT. Even though the girls put up a tremendous effort and game, the Rebels took the first set 25-20.

The second set came rolling in, hot and intense, HT wanting to go to the third set. The girls were playing amazing, keeping the game very close, until Erica Witt went up to block and jammed her thumb back, she tried to shake it off, but the pain was too great. The girls seeing that one of their own had been injured gave it their all out best, until their starting middle Tayania Smith, jammed her finger as well on a block. The loss of their two starters was too big for the girls to handle and they came up short losing the set and the game at a score of 25-18.

Good try and better luck next game girls! To Tayania and Erica- we hope you have speedy and quick recoveries!

For the fall season, two of our very own teams have made it to the playoffs – senior boys’ football and senior girls’ basketball. Now, we all know that the playoffs can be a little stressful, especially with victory on the horizon. With the playoffs just days away, we decided to ask members of the football and basketball teams on how they prepare for the games.
Khalil likes to get loose before a big game.
Khalil Olasimbo, member of the football team, offered some very helpful tips on how to prepare for the playoffs:

  1. Eat right
  2. Sleep right
  3. Watch game film
  4. Watch NFL highlights
  5. Go for runs
  6. Heavy training

Jillian Condron, member of the basketball team, offered up some of her own helpful tips on how to prepare for the playoffs as well:

  1. Run through other teams’ plays
  2. Put in extra hours
  3. Listen to motivational speeches from coaches and teammates
  4. Get hungry for the win

We hope the senior boys’ football and senior girls’ basketball teams will do their best to win their way to a fair shot at victory, and we hope everyone will come out and support their fellow Titans.

GO TITANS!!!

Come out and support your Titans!

Ups & Downs: HT’s SR Boys’ Volleyball Beats Georgetown for the First Time in Seven Years & Later Suffers Defeat at the Hands of White Oaks Wildcats

By: David Henein

On Tuesday October 14, our senior boys’ volleyball team took Georgetown to three

sets in the end, coming up victorious in the end.

The boys just won their first game against Bishop Reding the previous Thursday and

were pretty pumped in the first set. The boys kept on hitting hard, talking, and really kept the

ball moving. At the end of the first set, the boys came out with the win at 25-20, which was

pretty awesome considering Georgetown had demolished the boys earlier in the season.

The second set was then on its way, the boys were in the lead for most of the set, with

victory in arm’s reach, but alas Georgetown came back at the end and in a nail-biting game they

win the set 28-26. In the third set the boys were determined to win, to prove to themselves

that they could do it.

Finally at the end, the boys took the set and the game at 15-9. Starting middle, Patrick

Gamble was very happy with the win saying it was “Awesome, awesome news, I don’t know

how long it’s been since we beat them, it’s an awesome feeling.”

On October 23, our team suffered a tough lost against White Oaks. In the first set,

Trinity was leading during the first set, but then stopped talking to each other out of

frustration, causing them to lose in the first set 25-17.

During the second set, they boys were determined to win, to keep their chins held up

high, dig in and take the win. Sadly that was not the case, both teams were pushing for points,

but at 24-23, Trinity made a fatal mistake causing them to lose 25-23.
