Q: I need some advice. When my mom was in high school, there was this guy who had a massive crush on her, but she went "Nah bruh" and dated my dad instead. Anyway, my parents died when I was a baby, (I survived) and I'm pretty sure he had something to do with it. Anyway, he's a chemistry teacher here now, and it's kinda awkward. Plus, the fact that I'm fairly well known for surviving the car crash has got me this new nickname "The Boy Who Lived" so it's kinda hard to make friends. Got any advice?

Q: I like this guy but he is a year younger than me. I have been crushing on him since day one and I've got my eyes on him ever since. I knew I am invisible. But that was before I decided to make a move. I made every you-name-it crazy things that stalkers do. Until finally, I caught his attention (unsure if it’s in a good way). Not that kind of attention btw. I was pertaining to non-verbal cues. I am so confused. First, it’s just him, then his friends came in. They started pushing him to me. They are teasing him. Their eyes meet every time I passed by them and they will just smile. One time, they were chanting his name when they stopped in front of us, trying to catch our attention somehow. And we’re like, "really?". Lastly, I always catch him staring at me and it feels awkward. He is everywhere I go! It’s like he was trying to show off which is not him (before) likely. But I won't lie, I love the feeling. Am I dreaming coz he knows me though I never introduced myself personally? Am I dreaming coz we talked only once and I feel like we know each other so much? It’s been months. Do you think he likes me? (Coz if he does, why didnt he make a move right?) Or is there a chance of him liking me? Can someone tell me to stop coz I am tired of wondering.

Q: I think my best friend has a crush on my boyfriend. Honestly, I trust them both, but it's really getting out of hand. I'm worried that I'm being too trusting, and just setting myself up to be walked all over. And, if I really trusted them, why would I be asking for advice?

Q: What do you do when you have three assignments due in the same week and not enough time to work on them because of other homework, a part-time job, multiple extra-curricular activities, and trying to spend time with friends and family? Do you ask the teachers for more time? Is there a better option?

Q: I disagree with a mark I got on my last assignment. How can I approach my teacher to talk about why I got the mark I did?
A: Be respectful when approaching your teacher. Ask to speak with them after class about the mark and explain politely why you think you deserve a higher mark. Don’t make it seem like they were in the wrong by giving you a mark that was lower than you expected by pointing fingers at them – remember that they’re the one who inputs the mark on your report card. Explain why you think you deserve a higher mark, not why they were wrong for giving you a lower one. Keep in mind that a good attitude goes a long way.
Q: How do I become a billionaire?
A: Stay in school. Work hard. Be Bill Gates?
Q: What’s a good book you recommend reading? (No Divergent/John Green/Hunger Games and all that stuff pls)
A: Lucky for you, The Titan Times has our very own expert, Sarah Asselin, who writes great book reviews every other week. Her unique recommendations range over many genres so you’ll be sure to find something that you’re interested in. As for me, I’d strongly recommend reading either A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini or Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë. If you haven’t already had the pleasure of reading the first mentioned novel in grade eleven English, I definitely suggest that you do so. It’s a captivating story following two women and their struggles in war-ridden Afghanistan. The second novel, Wuthering Heights, is a classic piece of literature that was first published in 1847. The language may be difficult to understand at times but the heartbreaking yet not cheesy love story of the star-crossed protagonists makes it all worth it. Plus, certain quotes in the novel are seriously worth tattooing… or tweeting, whatever you’re more comfortable with.
Q: I’m torn over Zayn leaving One Direction, what do I do?
A: People grieve in different ways, my friend, but instead of burying your face into a pillow and listening to his high note in You and I on loop, I recommend that you try to keep your sanity as you wait for the launch of his solo career - we all know it’s happening. For now, stay strong. It will get better.
Until next time,

Q: I want to do something special for my parent’s 30th anniversary, what should I do?
A: I recommend putting together a video or slideshow of home movies and photographs of their marriage through the years. Set it to sentimental music like the classic Can’t Help Falling in Love by Elvis Presley or any old love songs by your parents' favourite artists, and prepare to keep tissues nearby because there’s a very large chance that tears will be shed. Parents love that sort of stuff. You could also buy them a gift certificate to a nice restaurant like The Keg or cook them a romantic meal to show your gratitude as well to let them relax and enjoy each other's company.
Q: When will be the second print edition of the Titan Times?? Seriously can’t wait you guys are doing an excellent job!! :)
A: Thank you for the kind words! Our second print edition is scheduled to come out in the first week of May, for Catholic Education Week. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for more details on the announcements or on The Titan Times' Twitter in the near future.
Q: Who’s the most beautiful girl in grade 12?
A: Sorry, friend. This is Ask Anonymous, not ask.fm.
Q: My best friend and I are interested in the same guy. How do I show him I’m interested without ruining my friendship?
A: Unfortunately, I don’t think there is a way you can avoid jeopardizing your friendship while acting on your feelings for your mutual crush. Say things went as planned and the two of you ended up in a relationship - even if your friend claimed not to be jealous of the two of you, she’d most likely still feel hurt. There are certain rules in girl code that just can’t be broken, and I’m afraid that this counts as one of those. Remember that crushes come and go, but friendships can last a life time. Ask yourself if it’s really worth the risk of losing or hurting your best friend to be with this guy.

Q: How do I get this girl to notice me even if she thinks I’m a loser?
A: Chances are that this girl doesn’t actually think you’re a loser. The first step to getting her attention is to be more confident and positive about the situation. Not only does self-confidence attract people, but if you walk around with the mindset that she thinks you’re a loser then you’ll never work up the courage to actually act on your feelings. Though it may seem a little nerve-wracking, I strongly recommend that you strike up a conversation with your crush. After all, talking to her is really the only way you can guarantee you’ll get her attention and is the only way to truly get to know her – Twitter feeds and Instagram pages don’t always reflect someone’s true personality, people. Try bringing up something that the two of you have in common, like a band, sports team, or even the homework from the class you’re both in (if you have a class together), to make the conversation feel more natural.
Q: Is PEI worth visiting?
A: It depends. On a scale of 1-10, how much do you appreciate Anne of Green Gables?
Q: How do I politely get people to walk faster in the halls?
A: I wish I had a concrete answer to this! There’s nothing worse than being caught behind what seems like a line of tortoises on your way to class, and unfortunately there isn’t really a polite way to get them to hurry up. I’m afraid your best option in this situation is to excuse yourself around the slow walkers or just wait patiently and hope they turn a corner at some point.
If you’re reading this and have caused a traffic jam in the hall by walking at a speed snails would marvel at or by blocking three-quarters of the hallway to talk to your friends at their lockers, please reconsider your actions and remember that it is never too late to change your ways and be born anew. Sincerely, Ask Anonymous and most likely the rest of the student body.
Q: Are the seniors going to pull off a prank this year?
A: Only time will tell, my friend… only time will tell.
Until next time.

Ask Anonymous, Round Two

Q: How can I be more organized and not procrastinate all the time?
A: Baby steps. Procrastinating is one of the easiest bad habits to fall into, and it’s something that everyone struggles with - unless you’re Superman or something. The trick to defeating this persistent pattern is to ease yourself into becoming more organized. If you constantly wait until the night before assignments are due to begin working on them, chances are you’re not going to jump right into completing them weeks before the due date at the snap of a finger. Try setting aside small amounts of time to continuously work on the project or study for a test. Most of the time we procrastinate because we think the work we have to do is going to be extremely difficult, but by slowly working away at tasks or even just starting them ahead of time you might find that whatever you have to do is easier than you imagined and you may become motivated to get it over with. However, when you constantly put off finishing something or studying for a test, you end up putting unnecessary stress onto yourself and carry a burden for no good reason. I promise that the moment you start giving yourself a sufficient amount of time to work on something, you won’t even be able to bear the idea of going back to cramming everything into a single night.
Q: How do I balance my schoolwork and part-time job?
A: I recommend designating certain times to completing your schoolwork on a daily basis - even if that means spending half of your lunch period in the library on an especially busy day. It may seem rough, but in reality what are you most likely to do after coming home from a long shift? Are you going to crawl in bed and watch Netflix before falling asleep, or zip open your backpack and spend the only free time you have doing homework you could have completed earlier? Remember that school and part-time jobs are important, but so is taking time to breathe. If you know you have a busy week ahead of you, ask your boss if you can take a few days off to focus on school. As long as you give them enough notice they should understand.
Q: I have a huge crush on my friend but I know they don’t feel the same way. What do I do?
A: If you know for a fact that the person you’re interested in doesn't feel the same about you, the best option might be for you to move on. You don’t want to jeopardize your friendship and you definitely don’t want to waste time waiting for them to change their mind about you. It may seem like this person is your soul mate right now, but in a few months’ time you could feel completely different. Let time take its course instead of trying to force something to happen. What’s meant to be will be.
Until next time.
