Last week at HT, students led by staff supervisor Mrs. Rutkowski released their parody video of Taylor Swift's hit song, Blank Space. The group, better known as Team Revolution produced the video to raise awareness about the affect global warming, climate change, and pollution have on the world's oceans, and the finned friends in them - sharks. Keep reading for an in-depth interview with an expert on this issue and to check out the video everyone's talking about.

St. Patrick’s Day, the one day everybody is Irish. It is full of celebrations with family and friends involving drinking and classic pub foods. But why do we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day?

Titans Finish Strong on the Slopes
By: Darryl Young
The Ski and Snowboard Team had a great run this year. The season started out pretty rough in November with a lot of early morning training sessions before the school days. When asked, Rachael Zerafa stated, "It's early and I want to die".
Then, the moment they had all been waiting for, the day on the slopes: however, it turned out to be a disastrous disappointment. The plans for skiing and snowboarding in Ellicottville were halted and the bus was stopped at the border due to a snowstorm in Buffalo. It was a long day, one that didn't result in any action.
Despite this setback, the ski team battled hard the entire way through. In the following weeks, they again woke up for the 6:00am bus rides to the hills.
The next week, the team went back to Ellicottville for a second round of training, but first their official one on the hills. Since only one training session is required to participate in the competition, the racers were still allowed to compete in the following weeks. The participants all performed excellently at the first meeting for GHAC qualifiers at Alpine Ski Resort in Collingwood. The HT female Ski Team consisting of Morgan O'Shea, Madeline Czechowski, Erin Heidecker, Jenna Locke and Julie Daugavietis finished second overall in GHAC, winning them some nice silver hardware. Congrats ladies!!!
The next week was for OFSAA. To put it bluntly, the conditions were rough. It was freezing out and extremely windy, causing the snow to blow everywhere. For racers, it was at times difficult to see the groves in the snow. Oh, and did I mention the ice? Overall, the team performed extremely well for the second week in a row. The girls' snowboard team consisting of Leah Chan, Shannon Charters, Alessandra Mahoney and Rachel Zerafa finished 3rd overall.
Qualifying for OFSAA is the farthest that the Titans have gotten in recent years. The meet was held at Blue Mountain Ski Resort. The team completed the races which resulted in a great experience for the girls.
Due to the first training session being cancelled, the HT Ski and Snowboard team made the executive decision to have one more competition. Since this occurred after the Halton competitions, it was deemed that this competition was going to be in the house- the team would compete to see who is the best between them. It was called the “HT Classic”. The team raced down the hill all morning with the fastest times being recorded. There were gold, silver, and bronze medals awarded for each category. The medal winners were:
Silver — Joseph Cavalieri
Bronze — Chad Arthur
An honourable mention goes to Marc Monette, who had three solid runs but just missed the podium.
If all goes well, this HT Classic might be a new addition to the ski team's season every year. Lots of fun and more school missed; it's a win-win, right?
I think Remington "Remi" Evelyn summed it up best: "We did well this year, we had fun, did good in our competitions, and hopefully next year we'll have more support and win".
**If you would like to join the team next year, be sure to talk to Mr. Hayes and listen to the announcements around November so you can sign up. Be prepared for early morning training!

2015 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic
By: Darryl Young
*UPDATED WITH GAME ANALYSIS BELOW*
With two scorching hot teams in the Chicago Blackhawks and the Washington Capitals, this year’s Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic should be a spectacle. It has a lot to measure up to with the show put on by the Red Wings and the Leafs last year. The Leafs, being the first Canadian team in a Winter Classic, playing Original Six rival Red Wings in the ‘the Big House’ attracted lots of attention. Now in Nationals Park, only a seven-year old stadium and a matchup that isn’t against long-time rivals it has received a lot less hype than in previous years. That said, with high calibre players such as Alex Ovechkin and Jonathan Toews, this should be a great game.

The first period seemed the toughest for both teams with pucks coming in and out of the shadows. The Great 8 almost got hit in the chin by a pass by his own teammate. The Capitals scored twice in the first to jump to a 2-0 lead. Eric Fehr came in on a breakaway after the puck hopped over Seabrook’s stick and skillfully deked around Crawford, notching the first goal of the game. He seems to always put on a show in the Winter Classic after his 2011 performance against the Pittsburgh Penguins where he scored 2 goals, one being the game winner. The next goal was scored by Alexander Ovechkin. The puck just seemed to follow the great goal scorer as it went right off Crawford’s pads to Ovechkin and he shot it into the empty net. Crawford was sharp the rest of the period keeping the score at two. However when Backstrom went to the box for holding Toews, Chicago’s power play went to work. It only needed a couple of seconds as Sharp shot the puck from the sun into the shadows fooling Holtby who had been so good.
The second period was a lot quieter than the first. The only goal scored was early in the period off a bad bounce from the boards where Hossa picked up the puck, passed it to Toews and then passed it to Saad for an open net goal to tie the game. Then the Capitals killed off a 5-on-3 to keep the score tied with only one shot on Holtby.
The game remained scoreless for most of the period. It seemed that it was destined for overtime. That was until Ovechkin skated the puck into the Chicago zone. His stick was slashed out of his hands and the puck went directly to Troy Brouwer who spun a shot the puck passed Crawford with 12.9 seconds left. It was quite a dramatic finish to 2015 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic

Keys to the Outdoors
Great Goaltending
With so many stars on the ice, the goalies are going to have to make big saves. For the Chicago Blackhawks, Corey Crawford, just off an OT win against Nashville with 36 saves will have to be good against the hot duo of Ovechkin and Backstrom. For the Washington Capitals, Braden Holtby is coming of an OT loss to the Islanders where he had a stellar 35 save performance. Can they put up similar numbers in Nationals Park?Keep it Simple
Conditions on the ice are sub-par with the game being outdoors and warm in Washington leading up to this game. The stars on both sides, especially Ovechkin and Patrick Kane, will have to ensure they don’t get too fancy in order to get good scoring chances. The Crowd
There’s a lot of hype in Washington about the Winter Classic however there is little about it in Chicago. With this being the Caps 40th season and in their own backyard, this game means a lot to them and their fans. Like any Verizon Center game, they want to use the hype of that crowd to fire them up. Chicago on the other hand will want to take the crowd out of it right away by scoring early. These are your Keys to the Outdoors. For videos check out the following links:

Game Recap
A beautiful day in Washington D.C. to play the great game of hockey on an NHL sized pond. The Chicago Blackhawks and the Washington Capitals played in this year’s 2015 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic. The weather conditions fitting for the show except for the sun and the shadows in the first period. Instead of keeping the fans waiting captains, Jonathan Toews and Alexander Ovechkin decided to switch ends halfway through the first period in order to make it fair for both goaltenders. The first period seemed the toughest for both teams with pucks coming in and out of the shadows. Cosmic Vibes Created At HT
By: Darryl Young

Oakville, ON – Students gathered together on Friday October 25, 2014 for the environment-centred
People of Life retreat in Holy Trinity’s theatre. A very passionate group of leaders, headed by Dr. Daisy
and Dr. Isenburg, introduced us to this conference.
First, Elder Peter welcomed us into the ceremony, familiarizing us to his native language, the
introduction of residential schools and the primary faiths of Aboriginal culture. He continued by giving a
brief summary of the Aboriginal creation story and singing in his native language.
Then, Dr. Daisy and Dr. Isenburg gave us a thorough explanation of the universe and our responsibility
to protect it, with songs about its wonder interspersed between key power-point slides.
The day concluded with spiritual dancing and a segment which included drawing with chalk pastels.
Overall, Dr. Daisy, her colleagues, and Holy Trinity's Social Justice League, helped us appreciate not just
the earth, but the entire universe.
