Any Time is Tee Time
By: Izabela Pitula & Kristyn Farrell
According to Urban Dictionary, golf is “more than just a game. It is a sport where power is not needed, but skill and practice. It is an endless quest for improvement. Golf is the most irritating game you’ll ever play, but a pleasure beyond definition.” According to Mark Twain, golf is “the best way to ruin a good walk.” Golf has a different meaning for everyone, but for Holy Trinity’s golf team, it is more than just a sport. It is a way of life.
The team consists of five focused players (Michael G., Johnny M., Dylan R., Cameron S., and Eric B.), along with their coaches (Mr. Crisostimo, Mr. Leonard and Mr. McAleese). On September 15th, 26th, and 30th, the Holy Trinity Golf Team participated in their first golf tournament of the season, the First Halton Golf Tournament, which took place at various golf courses in Acton, Mississauga, and Burlington.
On the first day, the boys used their teamwork skills and placed fourth out of seventeen teams. According to the coaches, everyone played well and only missed a few holes- a continuing improvement from last season. The second day of the competition was much more challenging, as the Titans battled against King's Christian Collegiate, one of the highest ranked teams in Halton. In the third and last day of the contest, the Titans had individual games where they played with more confidence, skill, and precision, and were much more successful.
The members put forth their best efforts and were able to place seventh out of eighteen teams, making only a few minor mistakes and demonstrating their passion for the sport. All the boys played extremely well, but the head coach Mr. Crisostimo distinguished Michael G. as “the most experienced player on the team, who used his skills to help and guide his teammates”.
Despite the efforts they put forth and the skill they exhibited, the Titans did not qualify to compete at the next level-GHAC. However, according to the head coach, Mr. Crisostimo, all the members played well and the tournament contributed to the overall continuous improvement of the team. Throughout the tournament, under the guidance and leadership of their captain Michael G. and all their coaches, the team collaborated with each other, learned from their mistakes, competed with skill and accuracy, and gained valuable practice and experience that will be of much use in all the seasons to come.
GO TITANS!!!
