Oakville, ON – Students gathered together on Friday October 25, 2014 for the environment-centred
People of Life retreat in Holy Trinity’s theatre. A very passionate group of leaders, headed by Dr. Daisy
and Dr. Isenburg, introduced us to this conference.
First, Elder Peter welcomed us into the ceremony, familiarizing us to his native language, the
introduction of residential schools and the primary faiths of Aboriginal culture. He continued by giving a
brief summary of the Aboriginal creation story and singing in his native language.
Then, Dr. Daisy and Dr. Isenburg gave us a thorough explanation of the universe and our responsibility
to protect it, with songs about its wonder interspersed between key power-point slides.
The day concluded with spiritual dancing and a segment which included drawing with chalk pastels.
Overall, Dr. Daisy, her colleagues, and Holy Trinity's Social Justice League, helped us appreciate not just
the earth, but the entire universe.
