Welcome to our SJ Society

By: Farida Morcos

You might be wondering what SJ means, but before I tell you, why don't you guess?

Smart? No.

Joyful? No.

It must be strong then... unfortunately it's not the word I'm looking for.

The two words I mean are superficial and judgmental.

To prove to you that our society is superficial let us walk in the hallways of a high-school. How many girls are wearing makeup? How many guys are wearing non uniform shirts? How many of us have thought someone was weird, cute, a pain...? This only proves that people only care about appearance.

But why? I think it is because the material world became more important to us than anything else, to the extent of judging the closest people to us by their looks instead of their actions.
If we deny the fact that our society is judgmental then we aren't judging one main thing we are supposed to judge. Judging our society makes it better, judging each other makes our society worse.

For instance, the stereotypes we make of everything around us help in proving how superficial and judgmental we are. I believe we should become less judgmental, we should care about what people think and feel more than we care about how they dress or the way they look. It starts when each one of us takes a stand, I apologize for all those I judged by their appearance and for all those who judge. Let's take a stand.
