Trinity Softball Catches A Victory

By: Erin McMurray
The Holy Trinity softball season kicked off on Tuesday afternoon with a home opener against Iroquois Ridge. Rivalries and closely called games in past seasons made both teams anticipate this long awaited season starter. The runs started off slow, but eventually the Titans pulled the score up, and finished the game with a win of 9-2.

The first two innings flew by, both teams managing three up three down, never letting any runners get further than first base. Then, in the bottom of the second, the first two runs of the game were scored by the Titans, putting us ahead of Iroquois.

Iroquois' team went on to score one run and the innings went by with no activity, making the outcome of the game hard to predict. At this point, anyone could have won. Then, the Titans exploded into the lead with two amazing hits. The first by Rachel Matheson Green, a pop fly caught by the Iroquois left fielder, gave just enough time for the runner on base to make it home for a sac fly. The second hit was an over the fence home run by grade 9 Nicole Rivait.

Then, as if the team couldn’t make it any better, Emily Baxter had an amazing hit out to the hole between left and center field, getting just shy of a grand slam by bringing in everyone on all three bases except for herself. When this started the top of the seventh with the score 9-1, the Titans knew they couldn’t be beat.

“We just had a big eight run inning capped off by Nicole Rivait hitting a 210 foot homer over a 10 foot fence” a spectator said in disbelief.

Fans in the stands say that the prospects for the Titans softball season are “outstanding”.

“Hopefully this is a sign of things to come. I think we are probably going to be one of the strongest teams out there this year” the assistant coach said.

The pride and positivity couldn’t be bigger on this team as the Titans take this win as evidence of the amazing season ahead of them.
