Saturday Songs 2

This week’s theme is Femme Fatale. We’ve put together a list of some of our favourite songs from some of our favourite female artists!

"Valerie" by Amy Winehouse
A cloudy vision of her tragic death can not change her soulful voice and her compelling songs. "Valerie" by Amy Winehouse showcases the retro yet authentic voice once held by this strong female artist.

"Burn the Pages" by Sia
Believing in the equality of genders and feminism, Sia expresses gaining strength and moving forward through this song, an anthem for women and people everywhere!

"New Romantics" by Taylor Swift
It would be a crime to compose a list of strong female artists and leave out T Swift. Her feminist awakening has sparked a new, less boy-centric era for the artist and has inspired thousands upon thousands of young girls. In this 80s inspired pop anthem, Taylor embraces youth, freedom and everything that comes with that with strong and extremely catchy lyrics such as “Every day is like a battle / But every night with us is like a dream”.

"Boss" by Fifth Harmony
This song conveys the message of women’s independence, success and respect! By name dropping some very strong and powerful women like Michelle Obama and Oprah, this young and upcoming girl group is showing young women like themselves to be independent and confident!

"Ghost" by Beyoncé
The song depicts Knowles’ frustration and doubt with the music industry against haunting and ethereal production. What makes Ghost so great is its unconventionality. Everything, from the spoken-word segment, the production, and its structure are unorthodox, especially from a pop artist of Beyoncé’s calibre. Make sure to check out the rest of her album!

"5" by Haim
If you're looking for a song to pump you up this weekend then look no further than this rock and roll hard hitter by the Haim sisters. The all-girl group branches off from their usual peppy hits to give you a solid PUNCH of girl power.
