Each year at the National March For Life, thousands of people gather on Parliament Hill in Ottawa to demand protection for children before and after birth. On Thursday, May 14th, an estimated 23,000 pro-lifers gathered together to inform Canadians how morally wrong abortion is and how Canada is the only western nation with no protection over the unborn.
Since 1969, over 4 million children have been killed by abortion in Canada. This event is a great opportunity for people all ages to join in the civil rights movement and stop this inhuman force!
Before the march began, the crowd gathered to hear inspiring speeches by senators, MPs, religious and pro-life leaders. After the deliverance, the walk began through the downtown of our country’s capital and the participants were proving that they were the voice of those made voiceless. After the march, which took about an hour and a half, the large crowd came back to the Hill and listened to emotional testimonies of men and women about the damage of abortion-choice in their lives.
The day before, on May 13th, there was an annual candlelight vigil for victims of abortion. This beautiful spiritual event involved music, speeches from a variety of youth organizers, testimonials and many moving prayers. The day after the March, there will be a workshop for the youth with guest speakers.
This event, that takes place in May each year, is a wonderful opportunity to come together and protect life from conception to natural death. The crowd grows every year especially in the aspect of youth.
From my own experience, I encourage YOU to go and participate in this. HT’s own Pro-Life club is always involved in these kinds of moments even though this year the club didn’t get a chance to go. This entire experience will change the way you will look at life and it will make a stronger bond between you and your faith.
See Mme. Silvestri, Holy Trinity’s Pro-Life organizer, or one of its members if you have any questions and make sure to join the club in the next year school year to help make change in our community as well as the world.
Let’s celebrate Life!
