Lights were down, music was blaring, black and gold filled the room. The feeling of excitement pulsed through the air as students arrived at the gym on Thursdays Fall Pep Rally. Both candy and balloons alike were thrown eagerly into the crowd while the Student Athletic Council members were enthusiastically cheering: ‘H what? HT!’
The first pep rally of the year started off with a somber and respectful tone, as the entire student body gathered to remember and pray for the loss of Corporal Nathan Cirillo. This was then followed by a moment of silence and the entire student body joining in on singing O Canada before the festivities commenced.
A ‘GO TITANS’ banner was displayed in front of the gym doors, and our very own Titan boys ran out to the tune of Sexyback before turning around to show us their quote-on-quote ‘Sexy Back’s’. They then proceeded to do a synchronized dance to Jump On It that many past students were sure to be familiar with.
SAC followed that crowd pumping display with a Titans Sports video showcasing Holy Trinity’s finest fall season athletes in action. Throughout the pep rally, the golf, girls basketball, cross country, girls field hockey, boys volleyball and boys football teams were called up to the front to say a few words about their 2014 season.
Intermittently between these sports team recognitions, there was an assortment of videos and games. Foremost, there was a B.Y.O.B video to raise awareness and support for the Bring Your Own Box initiative taking place on November 26th. Later on, a pumpkin pie eating contest was held. (Want to know how to make your own pumpkin pie? Check out Yisu’s Fall Menu for the recipe! [http://thehttitantimes. blogspot.ca/2014/10/yisus- fall-menu.html). The participants of the pie eating contest were made to eat the pie using only their mouths. Once they discovered the gumball hidden at the centre, they had to chew it and blow a bubble! Another entertaining game played was ‘Are you Smarter Than a Highschooler’ with Holy Trinity’s own teachers, Mr. Saulez, Ms. Olmstead and Mr. Bonfiglio testing their knowledge on questions such as ‘What does RT mean?’, with replies such as “Really Terrible”.
Perhaps two of the most noteworthy events from HT's latest pep rally were the Senior Football teams music video for ‘Shake it Off’ and of course, the incredible dance off. The first of the two was a hilarious video of the guys dancing and lip-syncing into a camera as they are followed through the halls, into the gym and around the school. It featured hilarious dance moves, sassy facial expressions and fierce attitude, to say the least. They really got funky with this music video! The second of the two included many of those same things, as members of that very same football team and the Senior Girls Field Hockey team battled it out to catchy songs such as ‘Lip Gloss’ and ‘The Nae Nae’. Undeniably the girl’s pre-planned synchronized dance moves were no match to the boys, when it came to crowd pleasing. Based on the crowds votes by cheering, the boys won by a landslide due to their confident dance moves and effortless swagger. Watch the video here. Overall, this pep rally started the year off with a bang. It was filled with intense school spirit and hilarious games and videos. Definitely a 10/10. GO TITANS!
