Q: How can I be more organized and not procrastinate all the time?
A: Baby steps. Procrastinating is one of the easiest bad habits to fall into, and it’s something that everyone struggles with - unless you’re Superman or something. The trick to defeating this persistent pattern is to ease yourself into becoming more organized. If you constantly wait until the night before assignments are due to begin working on them, chances are you’re not going to jump right into completing them weeks before the due date at the snap of a finger. Try setting aside small amounts of time to continuously work on the project or study for a test. Most of the time we procrastinate because we think the work we have to do is going to be extremely difficult, but by slowly working away at tasks or even just starting them ahead of time you might find that whatever you have to do is easier than you imagined and you may become motivated to get it over with. However, when you constantly put off finishing something or studying for a test, you end up putting unnecessary stress onto yourself and carry a burden for no good reason. I promise that the moment you start giving yourself a sufficient amount of time to work on something, you won’t even be able to bear the idea of going back to cramming everything into a single night.
Q: How do I balance my schoolwork and part-time job?
A: I recommend designating certain times to completing your schoolwork on a daily basis - even if that means spending half of your lunch period in the library on an especially busy day. It may seem rough, but in reality what are you most likely to do after coming home from a long shift? Are you going to crawl in bed and watch Netflix before falling asleep, or zip open your backpack and spend the only free time you have doing homework you could have completed earlier? Remember that school and part-time jobs are important, but so is taking time to breathe. If you know you have a busy week ahead of you, ask your boss if you can take a few days off to focus on school. As long as you give them enough notice they should understand.
Q: I have a huge crush on my friend but I know they don’t feel the same way. What do I do?
A: If you know for a fact that the person you’re interested in doesn't feel the same about you, the best option might be for you to move on. You don’t want to jeopardize your friendship and you definitely don’t want to waste time waiting for them to change their mind about you. It may seem like this person is your soul mate right now, but in a few months’ time you could feel completely different. Let time take its course instead of trying to force something to happen. What’s meant to be will be.
Until next time.
