Oscars Red Carpet Recap

By: Katherine Liakakos

The 87th Oscars fashion compiled of pearls, slicked-back hair styles, sequins, and an assortment of necklines. There were the good, the shocking, the bad, and the ugly. With laughs and tears throughout the Oscars, as well as throughout the years of the film industry, we always witness spectacular fashion by the world’s most eminent designers.

Anna Kendrick's custom Thakoon dress. SHE KNOWS HOW TO DRESS FOR THE OSCARS. Plain and simple, this was my most favorite look of the Academy Awards. When I saw her gown, I immediately thought "wow Anna Kendrick is a real life princess, and my ultimate life goals". Her coral gown with a high halter diamond embellished neckline, a diamond shaped cutout, and just the overall flow of the dress made myself drool. She surely stole the show in this dress.

Another favorite of mine was Reese Witherspoon's off the shoulder gown. It was sleek and stunning, a simple combination of black and white. It was a very fitted and modern gown with a mermaid bottom. Reese's soft waves, perfect glowing skin, and neutral makeup completed the look. At any event, Reese never fails to impress and the Oscars was no different. I loved this dress because it was so cunning and fashion forward and she simply looked amazing in it.

Its tough to pull off red on the red carpet let alone at the Oscars. But Rosamund Pike did it flawlessly. Her long form fitting gown with rose textured embellishments was simply brilliant. The dress was strapless and had a high leg slit, she completed the look with strappy red heels, and sleek round bun, and minimal makeup. This was a personal favourite of mine, because red is a really hard colour to pull of at an event, and sometimes it can be overdone. Her figure was stunning in the dress, and I truly believe that no one else could wear it like she did.

On the night of the Oscars, if someone said the word "pearls" to me, I immediately thought of Lupita Nyong'o's dress. It actually consisted of 6000 pearls. Everything was perfect from her hair to her makeup to her shoes. The dress was very cleverly designed and was a custom Calvin Klein. With a high halter neckline, a diamond shaped cutout below the breast, and the fact that it was covered in pearls, the dress was surely a hit. I loved the way the dress moved as she walked, and the colour complimented her skin tone astoundingly.

THE elegant black dress of the night was Margot Robbie's Saint Laurent gown. Her look was truly to die for. Plunging neckline, sheer long sleeves, the flowing bottom, minimal eye makeup, and bold red matte lip—I have to catch my breath before I can say more! Aside from her dress, her necklace was truly a piece of work. Created for the Duchess of Windsor in the 30's, it was obviously a statement piece that completed her look.

Chrissy Teigen's Zuhair Murad's gown is honestly a dream. There is no better way to explain it. The sheer plunging neckline had silver sparkling beaded embellishments, a chiffon long flowing bottom with a high slit that ended in with a ruffle, retro Hollywood glam waves, dark oxblood lips, and a sparkly clutch completed the look. If I went to the Oscars, this is probably what I would want to look like. Although no one could do this dress justice like Chrissy did.

Scarlett Johansson surely came to impress! The emerald green Versace form fitting mermaid style gown she was wearing suited her perfectly. It also didn’t hurt that her statement necklace was the same colour as her dress and made the look even more glamorous.

Dakota Johnson is now the most envied girl on the planet thanks to Fifty Shades of Grey. Her darling red Saint Laurent gown with a sparkling one shoulder and sharp neckline was very tasteful. And probably one of this year’s Oscars most famous dresses.

Behati Prinsloo's Armain PrivĂ©’s gown was a miss for me. Now this cut was absolutely stunning on her, but the design and embellishments as a whole was not very pleasing.

Im pretty sure girls all over the world drooled when they saw Ansel Elgort step out in his Prada tuxedo. It was such a classic design but had a unique navy twist that was simply astonishing.

Will.I.Am was definitely a MISS for me. I personally thought he was trying to imitate a referee for a laugh. Apparently not... This was my least favorite look for males at the Oscars.

For me, Common's velvet Prada suit was such a classic, yet simple and interesting choice.

Neil Patrick Harris had plenty of interesting outfits, that were honestly unique. My personal favourite was his grey tuxedo entering the Oscars. It suited his personality and skin tone very well.

Josh Hutcherson is definitely on every girls list of dream guys. He certainly did not fail to impress at the 87th Oscars in his classic black tuxedo.

Patrcia Arquette's look did not please me. I understand that the classic combination of black and white is in, but unfortunately, the Rosetta Getty design was a thumbs down in my book.

Zendaya simply shocked most if not all of us with her classy white flowy gown. Her off the shoulder, silk gown, and dreadlocks, perfectly said sweet and edgy, in one look.

Jennifer Aniston's gown. I don’t know why it took me so long to introduce this true piece of art. Her sparkling Versace dress surely took my breath away. Then again, Jen looks stunning in anything she wears. Her dress had a sweetheart neckline, with cream, white, and beige sequin embellishments, a high calf slit, and a very cleverly designed criss-cross design of the top part of her dress. Now, with everything going on in the dress, Jen paired her look with very subtle waves and minimal makeup. Overall another one of my personal favorites.

Sienna Miller's Oscar Delarenta gown was so intelligently designed. It was very structural and had subtle gold and black embellishments that won me over.

Jaime Chung looked like she had fireworks on her dress, literally. Her black Yanina Couture tulle ball gown had beaded embellishments that looked like, well, fireworks! Her gorgeous gown was clearly a jaw dropper.

Kate Hudson stunned us all in a very fitted white sparkled gown. It was simple yet extravagant. The diamond ribbed design looked amazing and her figure was stunning in the gown. Her small Jimmy Choo clutch made the look even more amazing. I give two thumbs up to Versace!

Yet another red gown at the Oscars.. BUT Kaley Cuoco's Romona Keveza still pleased me. Though I felt than an embellishment or two would have made the look better.

Julianne Moore looked absolutely stunning in her custom Chanel gown. Her dress looked like a true piece of art. The dress had pearl embellishments, as well as a very artistic black and white design along the top of her dress, her waist, and at the bottom of her dress.

Gwyneth Paltrow looked so feminine and darling in her Ralphen & Russo Couture gown. The pale pink did not wash her out all, it looked great against her skin tone and complimented her personality very well. The big rose piece on her shoulder was a great touch to the bodycon silhouette.

Lady Gaga's fashion is always out there and the Oscars was not exception. Her dress took 25 people 10 weeks to make and it was very extravagant and unique. The dress was very structured and was very well designed for the type of fashion she chooses to wear. However, her red gloves were a miss for me, I did NOT like the at ALL.

Emma stone looked ravishing in her Elie Saab pastel green gown. The bead work was aging for me, but the high neckline and sleeves was a definite plus for me. She paired the look with a fiery red-orange lip which blew me away.

Jennifer Lopez's dazzling peach Eliza Couture sequin dress, left everyone at a loss for words. The low neckline and tulle ball gown style was amazing. The way she paired the look with nude makeup and a soft curled ponytail was surely hollywood glamorous.

And last but not least Felicity Jones' Alexander McQueen ball gown. Her dress stole the show with her high warrior neckline embellished with pearls, textured top, and the overall colour. The gown was a five out of five for me!

This year, the Oscars did surely showcase the best and the brightest. I’m looking forward to what next year’s Academy Awards will bring!
